Squirrel Removal and Roof Exclusion – Ajax

Job Overview

Location: Ajax, Ontario
Structure: Detached bungalow with a brick exterior and built-in garage
Problem: Squirrel activity reported in the attic, primarily early morning noises
Service: Squirrel removal and full roofline wildlife exclusion
Visits: 2

Summary

Pest Control Ajax completed a two-visit squirrel removal and exclusion service after attic noises suggested active wildlife presence. An exterior roof inspection confirmed access through a deteriorated chimney screen. Humane removal was completed using a one-way door, followed by comprehensive roofline exclusion to prevent re-entry. A final visit confirmed resolution with no further activity reported.

Background / Property Context

The property is a detached brick bungalow located in a residential area of Ajax. The roof includes multiple vent penetrations and a masonry chimney, all of which can present access points for climbing wildlife if screening deteriorates over time.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported persistent sounds in the attic during early morning hours. The timing and pattern of the noise were consistent with squirrel activity. The concern was raised in November, outside of squirrel birthing season.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial visit, our team conducted a full exterior roof inspection. The primary entry point was identified at the chimney. Existing mesh screening was present but had deteriorated, leaving an opening large enough for squirrel access. No interior attic disturbance was required to confirm activity.

Cause Analysis

Squirrels commonly access roofs by climbing masonry chimneys and adjacent structures. Over time, metal mesh can corrode or loosen due to weather exposure, creating gaps. Multiple roof penetrations increase the likelihood of secondary access if not properly screened.

Treatment / Removal

A one-way wildlife door was installed over the chimney opening to allow the squirrel to exit without re-entry. This method ensured humane, non-lethal removal. Technician Grant completed the installation during the first visit and monitored conditions before proceeding with permanent sealing.

Exclusion & Repairs

With customer approval, full roofline wildlife proofing was completed during the initial visit. This included:

  • Installation of galvanized steel exclusion cages over four roof vents
  • Sealing of one plumbing vent with a galvanized steel cage
  • Reinforcement and sealing of the ridge vent at the roof peak using galvanized steel mesh

Photos show the deteriorated chimney screening prior to work, the installed one-way door, and multiple roof and vent cages secured flush to the shingles.

Outcome & Confirmation

At the second visit, the homeowner reported no further attic noise or wildlife activity. The one-way door was removed, the chimney opening was permanently sealed, and all exclusion work was inspected. No further issues were observed or reported following completion.

Technician Notes

Grant confirmed all exclusion materials were securely fastened and that roof penetrations were fully protected. Final inspection showed no signs of ongoing wildlife access.
