Raccoon Removal from Attic via Soffit Intersection — Ajax

Job Overview

Location: Ajax, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-story home with built-in garage
Problem: Early-morning attic noises consistent with wildlife activity
Service: Raccoon removal and roofline exclusion
Visits: 2

Summary

The customer reported an animal in the attic that was active during the early morning, this would normally be a squirrel, however upon inspection the opening was much too large for a squirrel to create. the technician assumed a raccoon had entered and a squirrel had used the opening as well. We completed a two-visit wildlife removal at a detached home in Ajax after the homeowner reported attic noise during early morning hours. Inspection confirmed an oversized entry point at a soffit-to-wall intersection. Humane one-way doors were installed to allow animals to exit, followed by full exclusion and confirmation that no further activity occurred.

Background / Property Context

The property is a detached, two-story residential home with a built-in garage and standard roofline features, including multiple roof vents and soffit transitions. The work was completed in December, prior to raccoon baby season.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported recurring sounds in the attic during early morning hours. Based on timing and noise patterns, the concern was initially suspected to be squirrel activity.

Inspection & Findings

An exterior roof inspection identified a primary entry point at a soffit-to-wall intersection. The opening size was larger than what is typically created by squirrels, indicating potential access by larger wildlife. Activity timing still suggested a squirrel presence, so access needed to be addressed in a way that would allow any animal inside to exit safely.

Cause Analysis

Soffit and wall intersections can weaken over time due to weather exposure and building movement. Once an opening forms, it can be enlarged by wildlife seeking attic shelter. Larger access points increase the likelihood of multiple species using the same entry location.

Treatment / Removal

During the first visit, our technician installed two humane one-way doors at the identified entry point—one sized for raccoon and one for squirrel—to ensure any wildlife present could exit without harm. This approach allowed for non-lethal removal regardless of species using the attic space.

Exclusion & Repairs

After confirming the homeowner wished to proceed, exclusion work was completed on site. Six roof vents were secured with galvanized steel vent covers to prevent future access. The primary soffit entry area was prepared for permanent sealing following successful evacuation.

Outcome & Confirmation

At the second visit, the homeowner reported no further attic activity. The one-way doors were removed, the entry point was sealed, and all exclusion work was inspected. No additional wildlife issues have been reported since completion.

Technician Notes

Grant conducted both visits, including roof inspection, door installation, and final exclusion verification. All work was completed using humane, non-lethal methods, with access points addressed to reduce the risk of recurrence.
