Job Overview
Location: Ajax, Ontario
Structure: Attached two-storey home with built-in garage
Problem: Nocturnal noises in the attic consistent with raccoon activity
Service: Raccoon removal and full roofline wildlife exclusion
Visits: 2
Summary
We were contacted regarding ongoing attic noises occurring overnight. Our inspection confirmed raccoon access through a damaged soffit area. Humane removal was completed using a one-way door, followed by comprehensive roofline exclusion to prevent future entry. A final visit confirmed no further activity and all exclusion work remained secure.
Background / Property Context
The property is an attached two-storey residential home with multiple roof penetrations, including roof vents, plumbing vents, and soffit intersections. These features are common access points for raccoons, particularly in established residential neighbourhoods.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported repeated sounds coming from the attic during nighttime hours. The timing and pattern of the activity raised concern about raccoon presence and potential damage to the roof structure and insulation.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial visit, our technician Grant conducted a full exterior roof inspection. An active entry point was identified at a soffit opening on the underside of the roofline. Additional vulnerable areas were noted, including multiple roof vents and plumbing vent penetrations that could allow wildlife access if left unprotected.
Cause Analysis
Raccoons commonly exploit soffit intersections and roof penetrations to access attic spaces, particularly during colder months when shelter is sought. The combination of accessible rooflines and unsecured vent openings created suitable entry conditions. Activity was identified prior to raccoon baby season, allowing for straightforward eviction without dependent young present.
Treatment / Removal
A one-way wildlife door was installed over the identified soffit entry point to allow the raccoon to exit without re-entry. This approach ensured humane, non-lethal removal in accordance with accepted wildlife control practices.
Exclusion & Repairs
Following removal approval, full exclusion work was completed during the initial visit:
- Six roof vents were secured with galvanized steel vent cages
- Two plumbing vents were sealed with galvanized steel protective cages
- A roof-to-soffit intersection was reinforced using galvanized steel mesh
- The original soffit entry point was sealed after removal activity ceased
Materials were fastened securely and installed flush to the roofline to maintain weather resistance and prevent future access.
Outcome & Confirmation
At the follow-up visit, the homeowner reported no further noise or wildlife activity. The one-way door was removed, the former entry point permanently sealed, and all exclusion areas were reinspected. No signs of continued raccoon presence were observed, and the site has remained wildlife-free since completion.
Technician Notes
All work was completed by Grant over two visits. Roof-level exclusions were installed using galvanized steel materials suitable for long-term exterior exposure. Final inspection confirmed secure fastening and full coverage of identified risk areas.
