Job Overview
Location: Ajax, Ontario
Structure: Detached two story brick house with attached garage
Problem: Nighttime wildlife activity reported in the attic consistent with raccoon presence
Service: Raccoon removal and full roofline exclusion
Visits: 3 visits
Summary
Our team completed a multi-visit raccoon removal and exclusion project at a detached home in Ajax during winter conditions. The work focused on identifying the primary attic entry point, allowing raccoons to exit humanely, and reinforcing vulnerable roofline areas to prevent re-entry. All work was completed without further wildlife activity reported following completion.
Background / Property Context
The property is a two story brick home with multiple rooflines, roof vents, and an attached garage. Winter weather and snow cover were present during the service period, increasing roof access and inspection complexity.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported hearing wildlife movement in the attic during nighttime hours. The timing and type of noise raised concern for raccoon activity accessing the roof and attic space.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial inspection, our technician conducted a full exterior roof assessment. The main entry point was identified at a roof vent, with additional vulnerability noted along the drip edge and other roof vent penetrations. Conditions suggested active raccoon use of the attic during late-stage baby season.
Cause Analysis
Raccoons commonly access attics by exploiting roof vents and roofline gaps, especially on multi-level homes. Winter conditions can concentrate wildlife activity indoors as animals seek shelter and warmth. Multiple roof penetrations increased the likelihood of repeat access without comprehensive exclusion.
Treatment / Removal
A humane, non-lethal removal approach was used. One-way doors were installed at the identified roof vent entry to allow adult raccoons to exit. A secondary one-way setup was also installed to accommodate dependent young due to seasonal timing. This allowed all animals to vacate the attic naturally without harm.
Exclusion & Repairs
Following successful exit activity, exclusion work was completed across the roofline. Approximately fifteen feet of galvanized steel mesh was installed along the drip edge to close gaps. Five plastic roof vents were reinforced with galvanized steel vent cages. Additional screening was installed at soffit areas where accessible, based on inspection findings.
Outcome & Confirmation
After a monitoring period with no further activity reported, all one-way doors were removed. Final sealing was completed at the former entry points, and the exclusion work was reinspected. No additional wildlife activity was reported following completion of the service.
Technician Notes
Grant completed all inspection, installation, and follow-up work. Winter weather required careful roof access and staged visits, but did not impact the effectiveness of the removal or exclusion. All materials were securely fastened and inspected before job closeout.
