Job Overview
Location: Ajax, Ontario
Structure: Large brick two-storey house with attached garage
Problem: Mouse activity reported in the kitchen and previously in the attic
Service: Mouse treatment and exterior exclusion
Visits: 3
Summary
Pest Control Ajax was contacted regarding ongoing mouse activity inside the home. Our team completed a multi-visit service that included interior rodent control and exterior exclusion to prevent further entry. Activity was resolved following treatment and sealing of identified entry points.
Background / Property Context
The property is a large, brick, two-storey residential structure with an attached garage. Exterior construction included multiple weep vents and wall penetrations at ground level, which can be vulnerable to rodent entry if left unprotected.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported mouse activity in the kitchen area and noted previous signs of activity in the attic. They requested an inspection to determine entry points and address the issue.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial inspection, our technician identified signs consistent with mouse activity inside the home. Exterior inspection identified several potential rodent entry points, including unprotected weep vents and an exterior wall vent. Gaps along the foundation line were also observed where rodents could potentially access the building envelope.
Photos from the inspection show ground-level wall penetrations, open weep vents, and a wall vent without protective screening. Tamper-resistant bait stations were also documented during placement and follow-up.
Cause Analysis
Mice commonly enter homes through small openings at ground level, particularly around weep vents and utility penetrations. The brick exterior and multiple vents provided accessible entry points. Seasonal temperature changes and food availability likely contributed to mice attempting to access interior living spaces.
Treatment / Removal
On the first visit, interior mouse treatment was completed using tamper-resistant bait stations placed in areas of observed activity. All rodent control work was performed by a licensed exterminator in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Activity levels were monitored during follow-up visits.
Exclusion & Repairs
After approval, exterior exclusion work was completed to prevent further entry. This included:
- Installation of stainless steel vented inserts in forty-eight weep vents
- Sealing of one exterior wall vent using a galvanized steel cage
These materials were selected for durability and to allow proper airflow while preventing rodent access.
Outcome & Confirmation
By the final visit, interior mouse activity had ceased. Bait stations were rebaited and inspected, showing no ongoing feeding. The completed exclusion work was inspected and found to be intact, with no new entry points observed. The homeowner reported no further activity in the attic or living areas.
Technician Notes
The service was completed over multiple visits to allow for monitoring and confirmation of results. Technician Grant conducted the inspection, treatment, and exclusion work, and confirmed the effectiveness of the repairs during the final follow-up.
