Bed Bug Facts

The Common Bed Bug or Cimex Lectularius is one of the vilest pests that could invade human habitat. These parasites only feed on blood and prefer human blood. Therefore, these members of the Cimicid family of insects are always in search of human hosts.

Although the presence of Bed Bugs is only associated with beds, these insects are also present in other locations of a home where people tend to spend some time relaxing. Therefore, when the infestation has spread considerably, Bed Bugs are also found in couches, dining tables, and chairs or just about any other area where they can grab a chance to feed on human blood.

Apart from homes, Bed Bugs may also infest hotel rooms or other areas in a lodging establishments, auditoriums, waiting for areas at train and bus stations, and even trains and buses.

The primary danger associated with Bed Bugs is the fact that they feed on human blood. Other than the side effects like allergic reactions and psychological trauma directly associated with this fact, Bed Bugs are otherwise considered safe in terms of transmission of diseases. They do not act as disease vectors even though they come in direct contact with our bloodstreams.

Bed Bugs were almost eradicated from human habitat in the 1940s due to stringent pest control procedures aimed at controlling a pest problem that has been troubling humans for centuries. However, the ban on a few effective pesticides as well as the irregular cleaning habits of the current generations has helped in the resurgence of these vile pests once more.
